Developing an immersed boundary method for compressible flow

چکیده

Abstract Development of a 3D sharp interface ghost node immersed boundary method (IBM) within fluid solver based on the compressible Navier–Stokes equations is underway. The objective IBM to accurately apply conditions at fluid–solid interfaces. currently being verified using various test cases, including classic cylinder in cross flow. As part this verification process, particular attention was given investigating effects different lateral conditions. results demonstrate that extrapolation exhibit better agreement with literature compared symmetry conditions, cases relatively narrow domains. These findings highlight potential benefits reducing confinement and removing nonphysical waves external flow problems.

An immersed-boundary method for compressible viscous flow and its application in gas-kinetic BGK scheme

An immersed-boundary (IB) method is proposed and applied in the gas-kinetic BGK scheme to simulate incompressible/compressible viscous flow with stationary/moving boundary. In present method the ghost-cell technique is adopted to fulfill the boundary condition on the immersed boundary. A novel idea “local boundary determination” is put forward to identify the ghost cells, each of which may have...

A ghost-cell immersed boundary method for inviscid compressible flows

An immersed boundary method (IBM) is presented, that can be applied to inviscid compressible flows, described by the full-potential or Euler equations, to start with. Possible applications that we envisage are preliminary aircraft design and rotor-flow computations. Although Navier-Stokes methods have improved significantly in the last three decades, and although computations with the latter eq...

A sharp interface immersed boundary method for compressible viscous flows

An immersed boundary method for computing viscous, subsonic compressible flows with complex shaped stationary immersed boundaries is presented. The method employs a ghost-cell technique for imposing the boundary conditions on the immersed boundaries. The current approach leads to a sharp representation of the immersed boundaries, a property that is especially useful for flow simulations at high...

An embedded boundary method for viscous, conducting compressible flow

The evolution of an inertial fusion energy (IFE) chamber involves a repetition of short, intense depositions of energy (from target ignition) into a reaction chamber, followed by the turbulent relaxation of that energy through shock waves and thermal conduction to the vessel walls. We present an algorithm for 2D simulations of the fluid inside an IFE chamber between fueling repetitions. Our fin...

An immersed boundary method for compressible flows using local grid refinement

This paper combines a state-of-the-art method for solving the three-dimensional preconditioned Navier–Stokes equations for compressible flows with an immersed boundary approach, to provide a Cartesian-grid method for computing complex flows over a wide range of the Mach number. Moreover, a flexible local grid refinement technique is employed to achieve high resolution near the immersed body and...
